External: Birzeit is very close to Ramallah and is an important gateway to the northern cities and villages. Additionally, it forms a natural extension for the growth of Ramallah which seems to be surrounded by checkpoints and settlements from the other directions. Birzeit is also a cohesive part of the Christian belt of towns north of Ramallah. This can be developed as an attractive tour connecting Birzeit to Taybeh to Jericho through a breathtaking and changing landscape extending from the mountains towards the Jordan valley.
The people: The Birzeities have always brought sustainable and magnificent projects to their town such as the Birzeit University. They are known to be welcoming, hospitable and liberal. Both Christians and Muslims in Birzeit live side by side in advanced harmony. There is a large Catholic church, several schools and both an Orthodox and a protestant churches. The Birzeit municipality is lead by a progressive mayor and council members who are dedicated to its development and their relationship with the existing social organizations is well coordinated.
In the Diaspora, Birzeities are well organized and well connected to their town's activities, prosperity and growth.
The old town: A large part of the old town of Birzeit still exists and offers an ideal fabric of architecture, culture, traditions and history waiting to be preserved and developed. Most of the buildings are from the Ottoman period but there is a building from the Mamluk period. In this fabric there is potential for all kinds of activities, such as shops, restaurants, cafes, museums, visiting centers, post office, a produce market, a guest house and much more.
